Welcome to Unicellular Games!

Welcome! I’m Patrick Reyes, an artist and programmer based in the Philippines, and I am Unicellular Games.

I’ve been making games before I knew what code was..

My first experience with game development is when my friends and I drew mazes on paper and made each other solve them. It is here when I first started thinking about “level design”. Mazes had to be legible or else they wouldn’t be fun to solve. This is a lesson that I still apply to my craft today.

Then I learned how to use Microsoft PowerPoint in school. The animations, hyperlinks, and the flashy graphics blew my mind. I made point and click adventures, played with the 3D Shapes functionality to create crude 3d models of tanks, houses and people, and created animated “films” with it. This program designed for business meetings was my first “game engine”.

At university, I studied Management Information Systems (it’s like Computer Science). This is when I learned actual programming. Like many aspiring game developers in the late 2000s and early 2010s, I made games and animations using Adobe Flash..

When I learned Unity, this is when I took things to the next level. I had to learn everything: making 3D models, game programming, game design, level design, making animations, etc.
